Yellow.

I’ve always been a huge fan of bright bold colors but this season in particular it’s been yellow for some reason.  Yellow is that brighter color that literally goes with anything. From that burnt mustard to sunshine it’s a color that will be in heavy rotation in my wardrobe this season. Some women think they can’t pull off the brighter hues but I say as long as it compliments you and your comfortable go for it. Here are some tips that will come in handy when styling the color yellow:
  • Wear the right hue.  If you have a far skinned complexion try brighter yellows and work your way to a darker yellow’s as the fall season approaches.
  • If yellow isn’t a color you usually wear start off with just a blouse or accessories. When you’re trying a new look start with smaller pieces. I wouldn’t jump right in and get a yellow monochromatic look.
  • Style your yellow pieces with other bright colors. It may sound like a lot but nothing is cuter than a bright yellow blouse with a pair of royal blue palazzo pants think about it.
  • Have fun with it. Be fearless and step outside your comfort zone!

The Anatomy of the perfect spring look

So even though snow is still in our forecast (and is literally snowing as I type this) I wanted to give a quick 10 step list to having the perfect spring look. This list can be used to put together any outfit it’s just a simple guideline to figuring out the "anatomy" of your perfect look. Also all of these pieces aren’t specifically supposed to be worn together. Personally I don’t ever try to match so I would wear all of these items together. Hope this is helpful!

1. I know its spring but you still need a jacket from time to time. Transition that fall bomber jacket into your spring wardrobe and layer it over your favorite blouse.

2. A nice gold watch is a staple in anyone’s wardrobe so this is an accessory you should be wearing year round. Casio’s never go out of style and can be purchased at your nearest American Apparel.

3. So if you know me you know EOS lip balm is literally my savior. I’ve been using it for about a year and will never go back to Chapstick again. You'll always need lip balm so why not use the best on the market! (Dragonfruit is the best flavor by the way).

4. Fun shorts are something that I cannot wait to wear this season. I’ve already gotten a few pairs in the past year and look forward to adding to my collection. If you find your perfect printed short don’t wear a matching top. Contrast it with another print on top. Trust me!

5. And following the printed shorts are printed tops. What I love about printed tops is how you can mix and match them with so many other pieces you already have. You can dress them up or down. I guarantee you can wear a printed top you already have in your closet 3 ways you’ve never tried.

6. I never thought there would come a time that I would want a platform sandal but this season I must have a pair! I’m not talking about a huge platform either, a very slight yet discreet one. These Tildon ones are super comfortable and have a chic, Japanese aesthetic to them.

7. Sunglasses are a must during any warm season but colored tinted lenses are the move this season! These yellow aviators are my favorite but I’m on the hunt for a pink and blue pair!

8. Straw hats are usually set aside for a day at the beach or a tropical vacation but I plan on rocking one as soon as the weather breaks. You can’t just get any straw hat. A wider brim has more of an appeal. In other words NO FEDORAS EVER!

9. Butter nail polish has become one of my favorite brands! Now that I am no longer an employee at Nordstrom who knows how much I’ll purchase them though. A nude nail is always appropriate and since I plan to wear a lot of prints this season I’ll be keeping my mani's and pedi's very simple and chic.

10. And last but least HANDBAGS! When the weather breaks I plan on doing a lot of outdoor activities so a satchel bag is a must! There is nothing more annoying than lugging around a huge purse on an outdoor adventure. Keep it cute and small as far as handbags go.

Hope this list gave you some inspiration for your spring looks!

5 Steps to clean and organize your closet

So yesterday when I woke up it was rainy and gloomy day out and I knew I was no longer in the mood to run any of the errands I planned to do. My closet has been a shit show for the past month, not to mention my room looked like a hurricane hit it so I decided to do some spring cleaning. Before I start to clean I always have that moment when I just stare at my room and say “where do I start?” After an hour of procrastination and watching old episodes of The Game I finally got up and started to clean and organize my room and closet. It took approximately three and half hours but it is finally done and looks amazing! Here is how I did it and you can do it!

Step 1: Start from scratch
Take everything out of your closet and drawers. I mean EVERYTHING!  Your floor should look like it vomited clothing. Clearing everything out gives you a clean palette to work with and is much easier to work with. It may look like a lot but once you know how you want everything to look it’ll get easier.

Step 2: Sort and Separate
This is the most important and critical part of closet organization. If you don’t separate and sort your pieces of clothing it sort of defeats the purpose ya know? Start by separating the basics like tops, bottoms, and dresses. From there separate your tops and bottoms. Example: sort your long-sleeved wovens and short sleeved wovens, and for your pants slacks from denim, dark denim form light denim and so on. This part may take the longest but is super important!

Step 3: Take it or Leave it!
So you’ve separated and sorted pieces from one another but along the way you’ve discovered pieces that you haven’t worn in ages! I know when I separated my clothing I found myself constantly saying “I forgot I even had this” or “where did this come from”. If you encounter this you should make a donate pile. I made a donate pile and sell pile because I found so many pieces with the tags still on them. By selling, donating or even trashing old pieces this makes room for some new pieces J

Step 4: Organization is the key!
So now that you’ve ripped everything out, sorted it and donated it it’s time to put everything together! Start by hanging all of your sorted pieces up in groups and hang them accordingly. If you have tops or bottoms that need to be folded fold them neatly. I suggest hanging everything up in the groups they were sorted in and fold them according to color. You’ll be surprised how much space you have in your closet and how easy it is to get to everything!

Step 5: Final touches!
After all of the hanging, folding and sorting put the final touches on your closet project by cleaning you actual room! I don’t need to tell you the steps on that. A clean closet deserves a clean room to live in! Since your done pour up a glass of wine and bask in your amazing closet! Job well done!

Hope these tips were useful for your spring cleaning and happy organizing J
