September Wrap-Up

Well it has been a rather interesting month for the blog of J Alex Style! From fashion week to designer collabs. This month has been a great gateway into the fall season. I turned 25 and I’ve been feeling an overwhelming sense of “grown womeness” (LOL clearly that’s not a word). But this month has taught me a lot. I really got a chance to step back and think about my blog and what it meant to me. Honestly, I never took the time to do that in the year I’ve been blogging. I started to feel that the blog was not 100% conveying showing who I am as a woman and that sparked the thought of a revamp. I’ve come a long way in my opinion over the past year. I’ve met some amazing people and I’ve learned cool new blogging techniques, tips and topics. Going forward I want to promote not only cool style tips and my personal style but the overall expression of me being a25 year old woman working a fulltime job , trying to achieve her dreams. I want women to come to my blog and be inspired not only style wise but knows that they have someone to relate to. So bare with me, the blog will be going through changes for the next month or so. So excited for October! I have some great looks I can’t wait to share. As always I hope you were inspired! See you next month!

Trends: Track Soles

So now that fall has officially begun I’ve started my search for boots and I’ve noticed one particular trend this season, Track Soles. Track soles to me add more support and give the ball of your foot more comfort. Seeing as single soled pumps are what is most trending at the moment the track sole is a nice mix up as far as fall shoes go. Check out these 6 hot boots and flats! And all of them are under $150! No John AltuZarra post :(

So I just wanted to quickly tell you guys that unfortunately I will not be able to post any looks of me in the John Altuzarra x Target collab. I’ve spent the last 2 weeks looking high and low for the pieces I wanted and everything is sold out. From going to numerous Target stores, checking online and 3rd party sellers everything (in my size) is gone! I’m super pissed about it not only because I wanted to share with you guys how I style each piece my own way but because I simply wanted those pieces.  So next week I’ll start to post some of my favorite fall looks from my closet and start showing different ways to wear key pieces. Bare with me! I promise this fall will be a great one style wise!

J Alex 6 fav trends for Autumn

Hola’ stylish folk! Guess what today is??? THE FIRST DAY OF AUTUMN! I’ve been waiting for this day for this day since the first day of summer. I’ve never been so excited to wear a pair of boots and layer an oversized sweater with a smooth leather jacket.  Autumn is that last “cool” season of the year your time to be super stylish without showing an obscene amount of skin or freezing your ass off.  So this season I decided not just to pinpoint pieces that are trending but trends as a whole. From minimalism to different hues of red check out my fav’s for this season. Hope you gain some inspiration!

A minimalist is usually thought to be a person of simple taste and prefers a minimal amount degree of something. This season I myself am focusing on a simpler and clean look. I’ve noticed not just on the run way but in a lot of street style I’ve observed woman wearing a simpler look. White tee, a simple denim and a bold jacket or coat; staples are key. So this season focus more on buying basic tops and splurge on a coat or jacket. Simplicity is key.

Bomber jackets were a trend this past spring but have a heavier presence this autumn. I’ve seen them on tons of celebs and down the runway. Bombers a trend for any and every one and can add a dash of clean street chic to any look. I copped a grey one from Gap this weekend and have already thought of 7 ways I want to wear it!

Red! Red is a trending color this season and I myself I’m a huge fan of it. Red is the type of color you can dress up or down but will always add a certain leg. So start with a hot red skirt or dress and I guarantee it’ll spice up your fall wardrobe.

Backpacks are an overall functional bag. I’ve always felt weird about them, they were just never my steeze but I see them becoming a wide trend this season. I saw a lot of them at all the festivals I went to this summer. The backpacks I’ve seen are super stylish and versatile. I think I may wait to embark on this trend till next festival season.
What are optic prints you ask? An illusion to the eye, in this case an illusion on fabric. Optic prints have been seen on the runway for the past couple of spring seasons but most notably Mr. Peter Pilotto does it best! This is a more “risqué” trend but every woman can use some color and print in her closet. If you have a more reserved style pair an optic piece with a solid top or bottom. But be careful of what types of print you purchase, all of them are not so forgiving to all body types.

And last but not least the trend of snakeskin. Now I love almost every print but I don’t own too much snakeskin, come to think of it I had a pair of snakeskin slip-on vans but exchanged them for a cute sweater at Urban..anyway I’m getting off topic. Snakeskin is one of the more the sexy animal prints out there. It offers a edge of class that cheetah print cant. You can find snakeskin in dressy and casual pieces. This isn’t a print you want to overdue so be cautious of how you style these pieces.

Street Style:Beet Trip

Hola stylish folk! Hope everyone enjoyed their week and is gearing up for an awesome weekend, I know I am! But I am soooo amped to have some fresh new Street Style features for the blog! Last night I attended Beet Trip which a cypher event with some of the hottest producers in my city! I ran into 3 of the cutest girls ever and I was stuck by their free spirted vibes and dashing style. Meet these beautiful ladies down below J
Meet Ayana and Chanel. Two of the cutest girls I have ever met! Ayana (ig: @AYANZAIRE) is a fellow blogger from the DMV and I was smitten by her rose colored trench and cheetah Chelsea boots. She reminded me of a younger me but a much cooler LOL. And Ms. Chanel (ig: @CRUZ_CHANEL)  kept it super chic in a grey cotton jumper paired with dark cardigan but spiced up with a pair of Harajuku Lovers yellow wedges. Both of these ladies were super sweet and stylish! So nice meeting you!
Meet Brittany. So when I saw Brittany (ig: @BROWNBABE) I knew I had to feature her today. She was super sexy in an all-black number in a velvet skater dress, leather jacket, quilted Chanel bag, and Christian Louboutin booties. She is also the owner of Muse boutique right here in Baltimore.

J Alex review : John Altuzarra x Target collaboration

Hello beautiful people! So yesterday I spent my day after church searching high and low for my choice pieces from the John Altuzarra & Target collab. So I started at a smaller Target and literally found one of the pieces I wanted. I knew the bigger Target only 10 mins away would have more stock so I decided to travel there. Once I arrived to my next Target location I did find more pieces but very limited sizing, I mean all they had were size 2’s and 4’s..haven’t been that size since elementary school  lol (but I’m serious). Anyway I started to try on some pieces that were available in my size and found something I liked and didn’t. After my trials in the fitting room I went back to the section were the collection was I decided to ask an employee to look for availability of the pieces I wanted in my size at other locations. She informed they were available at a Target about 15 mins away which was in the hood lol. I hadn’t been to this Target in years but I really wanted these pieces. I arrive at my last Target location and they literally had one of the pieces I was looking for. I was having such a great day I didn’t even let that phase me. I purchased the one dress pictured above which is incredibly comfy and flattering on me.  I have to order every other piece which I have pictured also and I will promptly upload pics of how I will style all of them.
Overall the collection is a solid and cohesive one. I got to feel and examine all the pieces and the attention that went into each is great. The details of the dove embroidered sweatshirt and dress is amazing. The concept of these high end designers making collections for lower end consumers is a God send. Until I can afford to blow $300 on a dress or sweatshirt I will anticipate each of these collabs. Next up is Alexander Wang’s collab with H&M hitting stores on October 6th!

Top 7 Spring 2015 Ready To Wear collections

Hello beautiful people! It’s finally September and we’re getting ready for my favorite season. AUTUMN! These past 2 weeks have been beyond crazy for me! I turned 25 and I feel incredibly liberated! I'm ready to re-invent myself and work closer to becoming the empowered woman I want to be. This season is about self-love and growth for me. Keep your eyes peeled you'll see.

So with all that said let’s get into my top 7 collections form New York Fashion Week. I know 7 is an odd number but it was a hard pick. There were so many innovative and fresh collections. These collections I chose all bring something different to the table. I love the sophistication of Thakoon and the edge of Alexander Wang. I literally sat and watched almost every show from fashion week and I was mesmerized, not by just the collections coming down the runway, but the sheer beauty of fashion week. Fashion week is a hectic but amazing time in New York City. Although I've never been I can just imagine the rush of getting to a Karen Walker show with hopes I don't Miss Rachel Roy's presentation. It's a life I long for but I know is coming with hard work and focus. Anyway these are my top 7! Hope you guys gain some inspiration! See you in a couple of days!

Lela Rose
This collection was a bundle of femininity and lady like charisma. I had so many looks I loved form the collection but these 5 spoke to me the most. Right now I’m in a place of trying to “class” up my wardrobe but still keep my youthful spunk and I feel this collection is a maturing level to what I’m seeking.

Yigal Azrouel
The effortless casual aesthetic to this collection is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G to me! I mean when I watched these pieces come down the runway I thought of more than 10 ways to style the pink bomber jacket /dress. Like a pink bomber dress?! That’s sick! Easily one of must have pieces.

DKNY
Miss Donna Karan has of course done it again! This collection is an ode to funky London street style with a current edge. Of course you all know Rita Ora just launched her fragrance campaign with the fashion power house and you see hints of her style in the show. Well executed!

Thakoon
From faux feathers to a oversized frocks, Thakoon brought a certain energy of fearlessness I haven’t seen from a collection in a long time. The odd loose feathers on the skirts are intriguing and can play as a great conversation starter if you’re partying on the French Rivera. This is the most exciting RTW collection I must say.
Jonathan Simkhai
The sheer and cut out sheer portions of this collection is the main reason why I fell in love with this collection. Now sheer was a huge trend in the spring and it seems as if it’s not going anywhere. I love the variety of looks and how they can cater to all different types of woman. One of the most versatile collections to me.
Alexander Wang
Ok so what exactly do I need to say about this man? I mean he just continues to come up with the most innovative and edgy collections. I have been following Mr.Wang since the beginning of his career in 2008. This collection is the definition of FIRE. Like this collection is just fire. I can’t describe the feeling got watching these looks come down the runway. Ugh just FIRE!
