5 Steps to clean and organize your closet

So yesterday when I woke up it was rainy and gloomy day out and I knew I was no longer in the mood to run any of the errands I planned to do. My closet has been a shit show for the past month, not to mention my room looked like a hurricane hit it so I decided to do some spring cleaning. Before I start to clean I always have that moment when I just stare at my room and say “where do I start?” After an hour of procrastination and watching old episodes of The Game I finally got up and started to clean and organize my room and closet. It took approximately three and half hours but it is finally done and looks amazing! Here is how I did it and you can do it!

Step 1: Start from scratch
Take everything out of your closet and drawers. I mean EVERYTHING!  Your floor should look like it vomited clothing. Clearing everything out gives you a clean palette to work with and is much easier to work with. It may look like a lot but once you know how you want everything to look it’ll get easier.

Step 2: Sort and Separate
This is the most important and critical part of closet organization. If you don’t separate and sort your pieces of clothing it sort of defeats the purpose ya know? Start by separating the basics like tops, bottoms, and dresses. From there separate your tops and bottoms. Example: sort your long-sleeved wovens and short sleeved wovens, and for your pants slacks from denim, dark denim form light denim and so on. This part may take the longest but is super important!

Step 3: Take it or Leave it!
So you’ve separated and sorted pieces from one another but along the way you’ve discovered pieces that you haven’t worn in ages! I know when I separated my clothing I found myself constantly saying “I forgot I even had this” or “where did this come from”. If you encounter this you should make a donate pile. I made a donate pile and sell pile because I found so many pieces with the tags still on them. By selling, donating or even trashing old pieces this makes room for some new pieces J

Step 4: Organization is the key!
So now that you’ve ripped everything out, sorted it and donated it it’s time to put everything together! Start by hanging all of your sorted pieces up in groups and hang them accordingly. If you have tops or bottoms that need to be folded fold them neatly. I suggest hanging everything up in the groups they were sorted in and fold them according to color. You’ll be surprised how much space you have in your closet and how easy it is to get to everything!

Step 5: Final touches!
After all of the hanging, folding and sorting put the final touches on your closet project by cleaning you actual room! I don’t need to tell you the steps on that. A clean closet deserves a clean room to live in! Since your done pour up a glass of wine and bask in your amazing closet! Job well done!

Hope these tips were useful for your spring cleaning and happy organizing J

Peter Pilotto for Target mini Look Book

So it’s finally here! The Peter Pilotto and Target collab! I love these collab’s Target does with elite designers because it gives the everyday girl a chance to rock a designer piece at a lower price point. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get every piece from this collection due to the sell out; I swear these collabs are like Jordan release now! You have to either get up at super early or get online the minute the collection goes on sale to get what you want, the demand is crazy now! I just decided to take the pieces I was able to purchase and style them in my own way and create different looks. Overall this collection was my favorite out of the Target and designer collabs. The 3.l Phillip Lim collection was a close runner up but the aesthetic of Peter Pilotto’s vision cannot be matched. I’m so excited for the next collab!

1.

This look is a more sexy/chic feel. I’ve seen a lot of people wear this top and they all keep it buttoned up (how it's styled in the look book) but I wanted to sex it up a bit. I unbuttoned the top (with no bra) and paired a thrifted purple suede skirt with it to add some sophistication to it.
2.

I paired the same shirt with the matching skirt (as styled in the look book) to give a simple yet chic feel. I couldn’t help but to wear it the way it was styled. It’s such a sleek unique look. I paired it with the neon Prabal Gurung sandal pumps (previous Target collab) and Express leather jacket.
3.

So if you know me you know I loveeeee maxi skirts! I wear them year round so of course I wanted to pair one with this look. The sweat shirt had that designer/athletic feel to it so I didn’t want to over dress it. The skirt was a bit long so I decided to knot it to the side to add some sex appeal and texture to the look.
4.

This is same look just with a relaxed sweat pant added to it. These are literally the most comfortable sweatpants I’ve ever owned before btw! $12.95 from H&M!
5.

This top is actually my favorite piece from the collection. I see myself wearing this top the most just because of its versatility and funky floral print. I decided to do a mix match look with a black and white Missoni inspired skirt and Prabal Gurung sandal pumps.
6.

This is my favorite look out of each of the looks I styled myself in. I love the laid back vibe to it. These pants can actually give that vibe to any look but it does something special for this top.
I hope this mini look book inspires some looks with you Peter Pilotto pieces.

Top 5 Spring Accessories

Spring time is literally weeks away and with this odd 50 degree weather hitting Baltimore I’m getting more and more excited! I spend all day around clothing and surfing the web looking at different retailers selections. I decided to compile a list of my 5 favorite spring accessories that I need and have already shopped for! Hope this inspires some of your spring season shopping!
1. Color Tinted Sunglasses
These fun specs add a 90's steeze to any look and come in so many different frames. I personally am a fan of the yellow lenses with an aviator frame (not pictured below). You can find these at any Urban Outfitters or Forever 21.
 2. Jelly's

I know you're thinking Jelly's? Really? But I love them! I've actually been noticing them trending since last summer but this spring I’ve found them on a couple of different sites including americanapparel.com I feel like Jelly's can add a bit of spunk to any look! I suggest pairing them with a high-rise skinny and a fluorescent oversized tank.

 3. Mule Pumps

I haven’t always been the biggest fan of a sling back heel but for some reason they are doing something for me this season. I love the effortless vibe this shoe gives off and you'd be surprise how many ways you can wear these. Honestly I don’t see the masses hopping on this trend this season but if you’re someone who doesn’t mind standing out a bit this shoe is perfect for you.

 4. Fringe Bags

FRINGE FRINGE FRINGE! In my trend picks for spring 2014 fringe was one of my favorite trends and now I’m seeing it on everything and my favorite is on bags! There is nothing a chic/BOHO feel to any look. Fringe bags aren’t even so much a trend...more so a staple. I love the fact that color fringe is huge right now, not just the traditional brown/beige color. I say the more fringe the better!

5. Straw Hats

Straw hats are an essential piece for sunny weather but making them a more practical piece for your wardrobe before the summer is an option you may want to consider. Try pairing a straw hat with a simple pair of white skinny’s and long sleeved sky blue linen button down to give you a "beachy" look. Straw hats are a summer staple and are not going out of style anytime soon. Oh but stay away from straw FEDORAS. Fedoras are the worst style of hats ever! Never trust someone wearing a fedora! LOL :)
